Mobile App Experience
This page and all others on the help site will be retired in Q4 2024. Please refer to the new help site by clicking the Help icon in the top-right corner of the STRATIS Management application.
Remember: opening the STRATIS app always requires an internet connection.
First Mobile Unlock Requires an Active Internet Connection
When a STRATIS mobile app user attempts to unlock the Yale lock for the first time, the user’s smartphone must have an active internet connection. During the first unlock, the STRATIS integration generates a digital key that is delivered to the user's mobile device through an internet connection. The digital key is delivered to the Yale lock via Bluetooth.
After the first unlock, future unlocks do not require an internet connection as long as the user is logged into the mobile app.
No exceptions currently exist for this requirement, but that may change in the future.
PIN Code Usage and Requirements
The STRATIS mobile app allows Residents to create their own PIN and deliver the PIN to the lock via their Bluetooth connection.
Staff and Visitors are not able to create or use Yale lock PINs in any capacity.
After a Resident has created their PIN, they are no longer required to use the STRATIS mobile app. The PIN will continue to activate their lock until they have decided to delete their PIN through the STRATIS mobile app. The PIN will also be deactivated once they have been moved out in STRATIS and property staff have resolved the move-out ticket.
PINs should be treated seriously and should never be shared. Residents desiring to invite a Visitor must follow the standard process via the Mobile App.
Creating a PIN Code
1. While logged into the STRATIS mobile app as a Resident, tap the Unit Lock’s name on the dashboard
2. Tap + Add PIN Code.
3. Enter a 4-8 digit PIN code or select Random Code for the app to generate a random 8-digit PIN code.
4. Tap Save.
Deleting a PIN Code
1. While logged into the STRATIS mobile app as a Resident, Tap the Unit Lock’s name on the dashboard.
2. Tap Edit next to your PIN code.
3. Tap Delete in the top right corner.
4. Tap Confirm.
You can View your PIN code on the Unit Details screen or Hide the PIN code so it’s not displayed on the screen.
Using the PIN Code
1. Place your hand on the touchscreen keypad to wake up the Yale lock.
2. Enter your PIN code followed by the check mark icon on the lower left-hand corner of the keypad.
3. The deadbolt will motorize and unlock the door.
Invalidating Resident PIN Codes
To invalidate Resident PIN codes after a Resident moves out and the Move-Out process has been started in the Management App, please see the section on invalidating former Resident PIN codes.
Bluetooth (BLE) Unlocking / Locking
Mobile app users can continue to pick their preferred button gesture with the mobile app’s preferences section.
If the mobile app user is not within Bluetooth range of their lock, the button will be greyed out and state Not in Range. The nearby feature can also be toggled on or off within the app’s preferences section.
Lock State Visibility
Residents are able to see the lock’s state (Unlocked vs Locked) by tapping into the full-screen view of the lock as long as the Resident is within Bluetooth range of the physical lock (typically 20-30 feet).
Lock Activity Logs
Residents can view the lock activity associated with their unit through the STRATIS mobile app, while Staff cannot.
Yale locks store 255 events before the lock memory reaches capacity and FIFO storage management begins (First In, First Out, which means older entries get deleted).
Therefore, STRATIS recommends that Residents periodically unlock or lock via the STRATIS mobile app. During Mobile App locking/unlocking, the application retrieves activity, stores it in the cloud, and frees up the physical memory in the lock itself.
Activity Logs include all:
Unlocks via the Mobile App
Unlocks via PIN code
Manual Unlocks (via metal key or thumb-turn)
Locks via the Mobile App
Locks via OneTouch
Manual Locks (via metal key / thumb-turn)
Viewing Lock Activity Logs
1. Select the Unit.
2. Select Lock Activity Log.
Visitor Access
Residents can invite Visitors to their property using the STRATIS mobile app. Visitor invitations created by Residents through the mobile app can be granted two types of access:
Full Access - Allows the Visitor to use the STRATIS mobile app to gain entry to the building’s common area doors and the apartment.
Property Access - Allows the Visitor to use the STRATIS mobile app to gain entry to the building’s common area doors, but apartment access will be restricted.
Property Staff can also create Visitors through the STRATIS Management App, but note that Visitors created this way will always be granted Full Access.
You can learn more by visiting the Managing Visitor Access section of this guide.
