Overview

The Alexa For Residents program from Amazon allows your STRATIS enabled property to have an Amazon Echo device ready and waiting for you the day you move in. Residents will instantly be able to use their voice to control the various smart devices installed in their unit.

However, the advanced features of the Amazon Echo devices won’t be available until Residents link their personal Amazon account. Linking their Amazon account will bring the personalization they’ve come to expect from Amazon Echoes including:

  • Access to premium music subscriptions (Audible, Spotify, etc.)

  • Ordering through Amazon.com

  • Change the Echo’s wake word

  • Voice calling

  • Personal Reminders/Lists

  • Ability to add additional skills

  • Manage the device, setup groups, create routines, all through the Alexa App

Keep in mind, Residents can unlink their account at anytime. Upon move out, the Amazon Echo is automatically unlinked from their personal account.
Help articles you can send to your Residents to walk them through Echo setup and functionality can be found at the links below.

Troubleshooting For Property Staff

Echo devices are set from the factory to connect to your property’s on-premise Wi-Fi. If a Resident links their personal Amazon account, they’ll be able to change which Wi-Fi network the device connects to. Once a Resident has been moved out of STRATIS, the Echo will revert back to Vacant mode and attach to the property’s Wi-Fi network using the saved Wi-Fi password.

When contacting STRATIS support for help with Echo devices please submit a ticket with the following information

  • Unit of the Resident

  • Digital Serial Number (DSN) found on the bottom of the device

  • STRATIS email associated with the Resident

  • Amazon email the Resident wishes to link to the device

  • Description of what task the Resident was trying to accomplish

  • Description of the behavior exhibited by the device

The Echo device can exist in one of 3 different modes:

1. Vacant - The unit is vacant

2. Occupied and Unlinked - A resident lives in the unit but has not linked their personal Amazon account

3. Occupied and Linked - A resident lives in the unit and has linked their personal Amazon account.

Each mode will have varying levels of functionality as the Alexa for Residents program develops and features are added.

The Occupied and Linked mode offers the most functionality to the Resident.
