Master keys are often created in the cases of emergency or fire use.
If your property was onboarded to STRATIS after October 2021 and also meets the below requirements, you can make master keys in STRATIS. If your property doesn’t meet these requirements or was onboarded before October 2021, master keys must be made in SPACE.
Your property hadn’t previously programmed locks with an independent instance of SPACE.
If requirement 1 is not true, your property is willing to reprogram locks after being onboarded into STRATIS.
OR
Your property has fewer than 96 locks.
Staff users who have been granted property administrator permissions are automatically granted permission to make master keys, as long as the setting to make master keys is turned on in your property settings. Note that master keys can function as your property’s emergency and fire keys.
To turn on your property’s master key setting:
Select Property Setup.
Select Settings.
Check off the option Allow creation of master keys.
Save.
To create a master key, simple make a staff smart key with all units on a property assigned to that smart key. If your property hasn’t turned on the master key setting, an error message will display letting you know this when you try to select and assign all units to a smart key.
For a Staff member to be granted the right to make master keys with their Staff user, you’ll additionally need to grant them this privilege.
To turn on a Staff member’s privilege to write master keys:
Select Staff.
Select your relevant Staff User.
Select Add Permissions.
In the Property drop down list, check off the box that says Create/Edit/Delete Site Master Keys.
Save.
