General Overview
ButterflyMX (BMX) provides video door entry solutions which allow Residents to audio/video chat with Visitors and also grant them access to their building. For access, ButterflyMX generates QR codes for individual users which they can present to a BMX panel to gain entry. Users of the ButterflyMX mobile app can also remotely unlock ButterflyMX access points without having to use a QR code.
STRATIS doesn’t support the use of pin codes for ButterflyMX.
Ringing iOS Users
When an unannounced Visitor arrives at a property, they can request access by calling their known Resident via the ButterflyMX panel directory.
The Visitor taps on Directory, searches for the Resident’s name, then taps on Call.
The Resident will receive the call on their mobile phone and can choose to deny or accept the call. If the Resident denies the call, the Visitor can initiate a call again via the panel.
If the Resident accepts the call, the STRATIS mobile app will open the native call UI and they can take the call either through audio-only or video.
The Visitor’s video feed will show on the Resident’s device at which point the Resident can decide to either remotely unlock the ButterflyMX panel for the Visitor or choose additional audio/video options (turn on/off video, mute/unmute the audio call).
When the Resident selects Open Door, the door is remotely unlocked for the Visitor and indicated by a message on the ButterflyMX panel screen. The call is automatically terminated.

What if Residents have both the STRATIS and ButterflyMX app installed on their phone?
In most cases, the ButterflyMX mobile app will be the first to notify the user.
Android:
On Android, both apps will receive a call notification. The notification for the ButterflyMX app will come in first, directly followed by the STRATIS app notification overlapping the ButterflyMX notification. The delay between notifications can be anywhere from 3-4 seconds.
iOS:
iOS will only show the notification for the app to notify first, which is ButterflyMX.
This means that if you’re an iOS user and you have both apps installed on your phone, you’ll always receive the call from the ButterflyMX app.
Installation Process / Initial Setup
For Property Staff to be able to manage Visitor access and grant Visitors BMX virtual keys for access via the STRATIS Management app, the below steps must be taken by your Property Manager or an authorized ButterflyMX administrator.
The Property Manager must:
Ensure that their building has both ButterflyMX and Stratis set up.
Ensure the property manager has an active ButterflyMX account.
Contact your ButterflyMX CSM to inform them you want to enable the integration with Stratis.
By default, ButterflyMX users have their contact preference set to Phone Calls. This must be changed to Mobile App in order for the video call to work. To make this change:
The tenant must log into https://user.butterflymx.com/ with their ButterflyMX account
Select Account in the upper right hand corner, followed by Settings.
Scroll down to Contact Preferences and select Mobile App.
Scroll down and Save Changes.

Resident Actions
Moving In Residents
Residents are not automatically added to ButterflyMX when they are moved in to STRATIS. You’ll need to manually add the Resident to ButterflyMX’s software.
After you have added your Resident to Butterfly MX, instruct your newly moved-in Resident to set up their ButterflyMX accounts to use ButterflyMX features in the STRATIS Mobile App. Resident-facing directions for how to do this can be found on our help website.
Updating Phone Numbers
If your Resident changes their phone number, you’ll need to update that phone number in ButterflyMX’s software. If the Resident has gotten a new phone as part of this number switch, you’ll also need to remind them to re-download the ButterflyMX and STRATIS Mobile Apps.
Moving Out or Revoking Access For Residents
When a Resident moves out, you must manually remove them from ButterflyMX’s software. This would also be the procedure for revoking ButterflyMX access for a Resident.
Visitor Actions
Sending and Receiving Visitor Invitations
Property-only access, where the Visitor doesn’t need to download an app
Sending
If the Resident isn’t logged in to ButterflyMX, they’re prompted to do so when they go to the Visitor screen.
The Resident can add a Visitor.
Property-only access requires a Visitor’s phone number only, no email address.
The Visitor list populates with that new invited person’s Visitor pass.
Receiving
The Visitor gets a text with a URL that shows a QR code.
The Visitor can then show the code to the BMX panel for entry.
Property-wide access, where the Visitor is required to download an app
Sending
If the Resident isn’t logged in to ButterflyMX, they’re prompted to do so when they go to the Visitor screen.
The Resident can add a Visitor.
Full access requires both a phone number and email address.
The Visitor list populates with that new invited person’s Visitor pass.
Receiving
The Visitor receives an email to activate their STRATIS account.
When the Visitor logs in to the STRATIS Mobile App, they’ll see credentials for the ButterflyMX panel.
The Visitor presents the credentials to the ButterflyMX panel and gains access.
Property-Only Visitor Time Limit
This feature impacts all property-only Visitors by setting a time limit for the maximum window that they’ll be allowed access. To adjust this setting:
Select Property Setup.
Select Settings.
Make sure that Allow Visitor access to property is checked on.
In the Property-Only Access Visitor Duration Limit field, set your desired duration in hours.
Save.
Support Instructions
Properties and Residents should contact STRATIS first for all ButterflyMX issues. If ButterflyMX must be consulted, STRATIS will reach out on your behalf.
