  1. By default, when your property Manager grants you mobile access during move-in, Bluetooth/NFC unlocking is automatically enabled if your property has Chirp Mobile Key capabilities. The first time that you log in to the Mobile App, a blue banner will appear at the top of the screen instructing you to Tap here to enable Mobile Key.

Selecting the banner will take you to the screen where you can toggle Mobile Key on or off, then select Register followed by You’re All Set.

  2. If you decide not to enable Mobile Key, or if you do enable it, the blue banner won’t appear on your home screen again. You can access your Chirp Mobile Key settings any time from the Permissions menu.

  3. For Bluetooth/NFC unlocking to work, the app needs to be running either in either the background or foreground. This means you can’t force quit out of the app, or your unlock capability will also quit.

  4. Your phone can be locked, even with the app backgrounded, and Bluetooth unlocking will still work. All the you need to do is wave the phone within 6 inches of the reader.

  5. Though unlikely and not yet reported as an issue, it is possible that metal phone cases could affect NFC capabilities. If you have a metal plate in your phone’s case, it’s best to move to a different case, or to move the plate in the case to the bottom of the phone instead of where NFC registers at the middle to top of the phone.

  6. For Chirp Mobile Key to work, your phone must have both Bluetooth and app Bluetooth enabled for iOS, and phone Bluetooth and Location enabled for Android. For Android 10 and higher, Location must be set to All The Time, and for Android 9 and below, Location must be On. If you don’t have the proper permissions turned on, you’ll be prompted to turn those permissions on in the STRATIS Mobile App.
